In April 2014, Epiris invested €40 million as a cornerstone investor in the €498 million acquisition by Arle Capital of Innovia Group.
Headquartered in Wigton, Cumbria, Innovia Group is a leading manufacturer of films used for packaging, and substrate used in polymer banknotes. The company operates from production sites on three continents and sells through a global network of sales offices, agents and distributors. The Group has two divisions:
Innovia’s security business is well positioned to benefit from further growth in the market for polymer bank notes, and its specialist films business is expected to grow through investment in new capacity.
Our strategy was to win new contracts in the security business, building on the Bank of England contract wins, and to support capacity expansion in the films business.
In 2016, Innovia sold its Cellophane business to Futamura Chemicals, Japan’s leading manufacturer of plastic and cellulose films.
In February 2017, Innovia Group was sold to CCL Industries for $1.13 billion*, from this funds under the management of Epiris received proceeds of £108 million, which equated to a return of 3.3x cost, and an IRR of 51%.
